Summary of Donations to Oregon Adaptive Sports (Open)

Oregon Adaptive Sports provides life-changing outdoor recreation experiences to individuals with disabilities. Participants gain confidence, build self-esteem and strive for independence leading to an enhanced quality of life. We see Central Oregon as a year-round destination for adaptive sports, with OAS as the leader in providing state-of-the-art equipment, professional instructions, staff and dedicated volunteers, resulting in top quality experiences for our participants. Bruce was an enthusiastic kayaker. When he no longer had the use of his legs, he devised a pvc pipe apparatus to enable him, with help, to get into his kayak, where he could move more freely than on land. When he lost strength in his arms and hands, Oregon Adaptive Sports helped him into the back seat of their double kayak and provided a paddler and a crew of other kayakers for safety. He cruised with his family up and down the Deschutes River. A physical therapist with the Bend ALS community found a kayak seating system (www.creatingability.com) that we hope to provide to OAS to best outfit a kayak for people with various disabilities. This is what the donations to this fund are for.
